Art & Design 210

Professors Elona Van Gent and Andrew Kirshner co-teach Art & Design 210 3D & Time, which focuses on computer-based approaches to art and design, including modeling and rendering of three-dimensional forms.

This Gallery highlights the results of a recent project integrating Rapid Prototyping and 3d design. The students worked together in groups of three or four to design interior spaces. The rooms needed to be of a time and space other than our own, so students began by gathering resource material related to their chosen time period. They then worked together to model, texture, and render high resolution images of the rooms. Each student also chose one of the 3d modeled objects to be printed by the UM3D Lab.

The rooms for which the objects were designed are: Mayan Temple, 1950's Kitchen, Early 20th Century Opium Den, Mouse House (in a toy box), 1920's Jazz Lounge, 1950's Poker Hall, and Ocean Floor Thermal Vent.
