To commemorate the rededication of the Media Union to the Duderstadt Center, Scott Hamm, a 3D Artist in the UM3D Lab and Anne Goldammer, an intern programmer, created the short animated film "D is for Duderstadt". This animated short features approximately 3 minutes of character animation with a custom soundtrack, and takes place in an accurate 3D model of the Duderstadt Center. The architectural model is the result of an Engineering 477 project to replicate the building utilizing dozens of photos, construction plans and texture maps. For the movie, Anne created the concept, storyboards and several models, as well as animating the introductory sequence with the bee. Scott did some modeling and most of the subsequent camera work, as well as animations of the many characters resembling letters of the alphabet. The score was assembled by Robert Lester, with a credited clip from Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee", and R. Thomas Bray, our Systems Project Coordinator, did the editing. |
